Responsive vs Adaptive Web Design

With the evolutionary changes the industry has been experiencing in the last decade, web developers are always kept on edge, trying to predict the next trend which will take the industry by storm!

While once PCs were the center of everyone's universe, a new trend has emerged which has shifted the focus of all to consider this era - the starting of a post-PC world. Yes, we're referring to the paradigm shift that the advent of smartphones has triggered.

Now, web developers have to design projects which can accommodate the required specifications of smartphones, using a web approach which supports both PC and mobile phone users. This kind of web approach is referred to as the one-web approach, which ensures that the same information and details are made available to users who access the web, with any device. The need is to incorporate a web approach which is supported by a number of devices, offering the same knowledge to all.

To create a web approach which is compatible across a wide variety of devices, there are two major options that a web developer may consider - responsive, and adaptive web design.

Responsive web design

It is a common web approach which can be used across a variety of devices. Web developers use the CSS media queries to modify the overall presentation of different websites, on the basis of the display size of the target device.

One major benefit of using this approach is that a single template can be used to design a variety of websites for different devices. Cascading Style Sheets (CSS) are used to determine how the information is displayed on different device screen sizes.

If a company wants a responsive website, then the entire site would need to be built again. Moreover, web developers find it hard to customize the display and test it for the different display size options. This approach works best when you decide to go for a mobile first priority approach, that is, go for a website which is designed, keeping the mobile display features in mind, and is then later modified for laptop use through progressive enhancement.

Adaptive design

This approach builds displays for specific devices and certain contexts, while utilizing JavaScript software technology to deliver a great user experience.

The JavaScript technology ensures customization and added functionality features for the website content displayed on a particular device. There are two types of adaptive web design approaches:

Server side

A customized user agent detection method along with server side system plugins is used to implement the server side approach to a device. This adaptive approach offers different and distinct templates for each device. This ensures easy customization and also keeps the significantly important device detection logic, available on the server. This lets the much smaller mobile phone web pages to run much faster.

But this approach tests web developers to their potential, as it requires major changes to the back end systems, which can present a lengthy and costly assignment. This approach also suffers from errors in performance when the servers are subjected to a heavy load.

Client side

This approach doesn't require web developers to build everything from scratch; they are able to build on the available content. While working on trying to deliver an effective mobile responsive layout, web developers can still keep on working on the content in the meantime.

This approach makes sure that only those sources are properly loaded which are required by the client's device. Web developers who want to work on the client side adaptive approach need to have a sound understanding and knowledge of JavaScript, in order to use this particular technique.

Since this approach is developed on the existing content of a site and the formerly used code base, it is very important to maintain all those details as the website evolves while being developed with a different web approach.

Every web approach style has its own pros and setbacks. It is up to the web developer to choose the best approach which compliments their project requirements and is suitable for their prospective audience.

My readers usually call me YangBaoBei (杨宝贝) because my surname is Yong and baobei means baby! Hmmm I’m petite but own a chubby face, people always say I look younger and smaller in real person. Born in 7 February 1994(omg can’t believe that I’m turning 20 this year), Aquarius (imaginative girl). I started blogging at http://www.yangbaobei1314.blogspot.com since 14 years old (when I was so naïve and young). I named my blog the “heart of yangbaobei”, which indicates that it’s a platform/diary for me to express and share my feelings and thoughts in life. I consider myself as a lifestyle blogger and most of the time I enjoy blogging about my personal stuff such as my college life, memories, dreams, my loves and the awkward moments in life…However I also occasionally blog about the events that I attended, makeup tips, food, product review and MOVIE REVIEW (I’m a huge MOVIE KAKI)! I love blogging simply because it helps me to release stress and because of blogging I got to know a lot of true friends. Whenever I face some problems or obstacles in life, I will just share it on blog, and the best part is my readers would always be there to read me, feel me, and give me suggestions. Sometimes, I will read back my old blog posts to motivate myself to work hard for better achievement in future. One of my biggest achievement in life is I got to publish my own novels! In my earlier student years, I was really into writing stories and been sending the drafts to many publishers. One of the publishers was attracted by my story but they have no confidence for throwing a huge amount of cost to publish a book for a not so well-known teenage girl like me. HOWEVER, they told me, “If you are able to persuade 100 blog readers to buy your book (pre-order), we will help you to publish the book.” Million thanks to my blog readers who been supporting me for years… They were willing to trust me and made online payment to me… Few days later, I’ve hit the target and the publishers promised to publish the book.  Now, I’ve already published 3 books (my third novel even got into top selling chart no.2), which can be found at Popular/ MPH bookstore. My bf is helping me to manage my own online bookstore too! I’ll never give up on chasing after my dreams and my blog readers are my inspirations. My dreams will never come true if my blog doesn’t exist. After few years of sharing my thoughts on blog, I started to gain readers and it leads me to a better life. I wasn’t born in a rich family but now I’m able to fund all my college fees and entertainment fees all by myself.  All thanks to Nuffnang! Nuffnang has been providing me a lot of opportunity to further my blogging career.

Mia Suraya

Hello netizens, my name is Mia Suraya. I’m running a personal blog called Stripped. Sometimes I feel like I’m leading a double life — during the day, you’d spot me in a suit, dealing with numbers and writing memos (yawn), but at night, I’d be rolling on my bed and blogging about whatever that tickles my fancy.

For a moment, you may wonder, “Who in the right mind would name a blog Stripped?!” That’s because I liken blogging to the stripping of thoughts and experience. Does that make any sense?

Birth of the blog

I began blogging as an angry teenager who needed an outlet to speak her mind. There were two things that I was good at — (1) building my own websites, way back when connecting to the internet would include the disturbing noise of a 56k modem (that tells you I’m ancient) and (2) expressing myself on paper.

Blogging is like having these two favorite pastimes of mine combined, so it made perfect sense to me. Don’t worry, you’re all spared from the rants because thankfully, the angry teenager grew up. Heh.

These days I blog because I find the need to record my life somewhere. Actually, also because I have bad memory e.g. sometimes when I read posts I’d written months ago, I’d go, “That happened???” A blog is a convenient place to record everything!

The things I write about

My blog revolves around my life — what I’ve done, where I’ve been, what I’ve eaten, what I’ve tried. You get the gist. Below are the things that I’ve written about:

My problems. Most of them involve whether or not I should buy something, like this necklace that was worn by the lead character in Hana Yori Dango. Yeah, first world problems.

The places I go to, like Japan. I’m obsessed with the country! Most of what I earn is spent on air tickets to the land of the rising sun. Read about related posts here.

Assalamualaikum

Well tajuk juga sudah bimbo habis, bajet macam diri sendiri somebody. Orang tertanya-tanya siapakah Fatin Liyana? Artis? Bukan. Youtube sensation? Bukan. Blogger? Ye. Blogger je pon, dah tu kenapa famous sangat? *terus google F A T I N L I YA N A sebab tak puas hati*  Ramai yang curious tentang status aku ini actually. Bila curious, terus open new tab and google. Oleh itu, nama aku pon tersenarai dalam Top10 google fastest rising people. Thanks ok!
Disebabkan aku berada di hometown dan internet selaju impak maksima, maka why not kalau aku tulis pasal diri sendiri. Kedengaran seperti terhegeh-hegeh ya tuan-tuan dan puan-puan. Tetapi kadang-kadang tang terhegeh-hegeh ni la yang ampa suma suka dok baca. Kalau tidak masakan surat khabar METRO merupakan akhbar nombor 1 negara.
SIAPA FATIN LIYANA?
Aku ni merupakan seorang blogger tidak tegar namun berprinsip. Berumur 23 tahun dan masih lagi bergelar seorang mahasiswa yang tidak menentang AUKU. Sekarang sedang menjalani latihan clinical di Pusat Perubatan Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (PPUKM) di bawah ijazah perubatan. Aku juga merupakan model muslimah berbayar. Nothing comes for free bro! Namun disebabkan kekangan masa, maka aku amatlah selektif dalam memilih tawaran kerja.
OH ORANG BIASA JE PON, DAH TU KENAPA BOLEH FAMOUS?
Inilah yang dikatakan, tuah ayam nampak di kaki, tuah manusia tiada siapa yang tahu. Kau ingat aku expect ke benda jadi macam ni? Siryes weyh, siryes tak. Tapi syukur alhamdulillah rezeki itu milik Allah, aku hanya mampu menzahirkan rasa syukur. Masa mula-mula aku tulis blog, yakni pada tahun 2009, memang aku tak terfikir langsung yang orang akan baca blog aku. Realitinya, memang takde orang baca pon masa tu. Macam haremm kekekekeke.
Tujuan aku tulis blog pon, adalah untuk mencatat kenangan manis aku ketika hidup di negara orang (Bandung). Instead of tulis kat diary which I never had one, aku tulis kat blog. Masa tu skala syok sendiri aku memang 9/10. Entah hape-hape aku tulis. Tapi comel jugakla bila baca balik kekekeke...macam tak caya aku yang tulis macam tu.
Actually dulu aku takde facebook. Eventhough masa tu facebook tengah sooo in tapi aku punya firasat kata, dah takyah de nak buat facebook bagai. So aku follow kata hatiku. Eceh! Namun segalanya berubah lepas aku ingkar mendengar kata hatiku. Aku buat facebook juga walaupun disaat itu hatiku memberontak bagai dipukul ombak. Akibatnya, link blog aku mula menular di news feed. Dan nama Fatin Liyana mula meniti di bibir-bibir para blogger & facebooker sehinggalah hari ini.
APA YANG BEST SANGAT PASAL BLOG FATIN LIYANA NI?
Nama blog aku ni honeykoyuki. Berpadananlah dengan URL dia. Korang tanya apa yang best pasal blog ni? Dude, nama dia pon dah best okay. Macam kawaii-kawaii gitu ^___^ Anyway, blog aku ni takde genre yang tertentu. Aku anggap blog ni sebagai tempat aku berkongsi kisah hidup dengan para pembaca. Sebab kisah hidup aku ni luas dan banyak benda yang aku nak share, so yeah. Makanan ada, fashion ada, tips ada, travel guide ada macam-macamlah ada. Susah untuk aku decide nak pilih genre mana.
Aku takdelah rasa blog aku ni best, aku rasa macam oklah. Bolehlah buat bahan bacaan santai. Tapikan, I have to admit yang aku suka baca blog sendiri. Pastu aku mengimbau balik kenangan lama. Good times. That's one of the reason jugak kenapa aku jarang update blog. Aku hanya akan update bila aku rasa entry itu menarik dan ada sentimental value untuk aku. Sebab nanti aku akan baca balik entry-entry yang aku dah tulis. Aku taknaklah update blog cincai-cincai, setakat buat syarat ada new entry je kan.
PERNAH KELUAR MAJALAH KE MANA-MANA? TAK PERNAH TENGOK PON DALAM BLOG NI?
Disebabkan aku sedar diri yang aku ni hanyalah insan biasa, maka aku segan sebenarnya nak gebang kat orang yang aku keluar majalah ke paper ke hehe... Kalau korang ternampak/terbaca ke itu nasiblah. Dulu aku ada jugak update kat blog, siap tunjuk gambar gitu..biasalah batak masa mula-mula keluar media kan. Tapi lama-lama aku jadi segan pulak, rasa macam tujuan aku upload tu adalah untuk membangga diri sahaja. Well aku suka jugaklah membangga diri but not that crystal clear you know. wkwkwkwkwk.

Bobo Stephanie - Nuffnang Featured Blogger for the month of July 2013

I recently received an email from Nuffnang and to my surpise, the title was “Featured Blogger of The Month – July2013.” The moment I received it I texted Jo and he replied, “finally, what took them so long?” Hahaha I was super happy when I received this news cause I have never thought that my blog will ever be featured by anyone, not to mention Nuffnang. Thank you Nuffnang, for giving me this opportunity to show off a little.

I honestly have no idea how to start this because whenever someone asks me to introduce myself, I always ended up with, “Hi, I’m Bobo”, then, continued with an awkward laugh hahaha. I honestly have got nothing much to say about myself. I’m just someone who loves the color PINK, McD, I’m awfully bad at math, and I’m married. Like I said, I’m very bad at it. This is so awkward… Instead of just sharing pictures of myself and telling you how awesome I am, I thought why not just share some of my favorite blogposts from the last few months? First, our hunnymoon posts!! Ok, I cheated a bit because Jo wrote half of them and the feedback was good!

Obviously my wedding posts! Can’t thank all my bridesmaids and the groomsmen enough for being a part of my wedding! Then I thought why not share some behind the scenes of Bobostephanie.com! These are some stuff I use or rely on to create my posts here and I’d like to show you guys!

My dressing table. This is where I make myself pretty “wink wink” hahaha. Sorry, our room is kinda in a mess right now cause I’ve just came back from Singapore and I haven’t had time to pack!!!

My workstation! I traded my Macbook Pro for Jo’s iMac cause he uses it for work and I needed a bigger screen to edit my pictures. If you’re wondering why my table filled with pictures of half naked girls, its cause Jo decorated most of the room………………..swt. Nevermind la, at least I get some motivation to work out hahaha.

This is what we use for most of the pictures you see on Bobostephanie.com! (I’m going to ask Jo to describe OK) I use a Nikon D300 and most of the time I shoot with a Tamron 17-55mm f2.8 lens but I also have a Nikon 35mm f1.8. For most of the LOTD pictures taken at home, or for product photography, I use a flash with a mini softbox or ringflash.

My iPhone 4s and Note 2. I use these to take most of the photos you see on my Instagram account (@bobostephanie) and sometimes I also blog on my Note 2 when I’m overseas!

Nah, don’t say I don’t post pictures of Jo OK! He is also a big part of Bobostephanie.com because he’s my photographer, editor, stylist, personal shopper, and also my motivator when I get really, really, lazy to blog or meet deadlines hehehe!

Also, not to forget, my stylist Yoshi san from 76style Bangsar, who seriously has magic hands, look what he did to my hair using only a curler and hairdryer! He’s responsible for all my hairstyles so don’t hesitate to give him a call if you’re looking to cut/color your hair the next time!

Last but not least, I also want to show everyone my biggest passion or you can say the highlights of Bobostephanie.com, which are my LOTDs (Look Of The Day). If you’re new to my blog let me explain a little bit about another side of me. Just like any other girl, I love to dress up. I always tell myself “dress to impress”, and dressing up plays a big role in my life because it gives me confidence! Whenever I’m free I will just hop over to LOOKBOOK.nu and check out what’s trending now and also to get more inspiration. I believe everyone has his or her very own unique side when it comes to fashion, as for mine I would say I’m a mixture of sexy and chic! What do you think?

Assalamualaikum & Yuhooo! ♥ Kehadapan yang sudi baca, dari yang sudi sangat-sangat menaip untuk ini, saya Yuyu Zulaikha peminat number satu tak pernah number dua mahupun tiga belog Kupukupukecik.blogspot.com. Terutama sekali sebelum panjang panjang taip, terima kasih Nuffnang untuk bagi peluang amat terharu macam ni. Yuyu dapat invitation sebagai Featured Blogger of the Month dari Nuffnang seminggu sebelum harilahir Yuyu yang ke 24, jadi Yuyu consider ini sebagai hadiah hari lahir Yuyu dari Nuffnang.Okay, kali ni terharu kuasa enam puluh lapan.

Sebagai seorang yang telah diterapkan sebagai Pencinta Diri Sendiri, Yuyu amat bersyukur menjadi anak Langkawi yang selalu dikelilingi rakan bila mana nak balik kampung. Nak coklat murah lettew. Tahu. Gembira menjadi seorang berketinggian 140cm selepas dibundarkan dan menganggap itu sebagai keunikan tahap gaban. Pertama sekali, kenapa Yuyu berbelog dan bagaimana Yuyu meneruskan kehidupan norma sebagai seorang blogger?

Yuyu suka berbelog dan sangat bersyukur dengan kehidupan yuyu dengan belog. Walaupun mulanya masa zaman nak up up dulu (2008), belog adalah benda swag yang wajib ada link di Myspace. Budak budak kan. Padahal post lirik lagu, lepas tu merapu dengan emosi budak budak. Bila awal 2011, Yuyu makin ngada zerious nak berbelog. setiap hari update pasal life di kolej, pasal apa yang Yuyu suka, pendapat dan aktiviti yang menarik untuk dibaca. Menarik kah masalahnya?

Dari situ, banyak pula sokongan dari pembaca belog Yuyu. Ramai yang comment positif pasal belog Yuyu, makin la rasa nak update setiap saat. Mampu? Terima kasih semua yang sudi baca. Namun Hanis mengakui lelaki dalam gambar tesebut merupakan teman lelakinya namun hubungan mereka telah lama putus.

“Lelaki tu bekas teman lelaki saya dan sebenarnya gambar tu gambar dua tahun lepas. Dia yang muat naik gambar tu di Instagram dia. Saya tak tahu kenapa dia buat macam tu. Mungkin tiba-tiba dia terkenang kembali kot… “, katanya sambil tersenyum.

Pemilik nama sebenar Hanis Zalikha Zainal Rashid, 23, diminta mengulas mengenai isu gambar dia bersama seorang lelaki dipercayai kekasihnya. Gara-gara gambar tersebut, ramai yang mengutuk dan menganggap Hanis suka propa.

Tambah Hanis, pada awalnya dia tidak ambil pusing mengenai gambar tersebut. Tetapi apabila berita itu keluar di akhbar timbul rasa kurang senang dalam dirinya. Pun begitu Hanis menjadikan perkara itu sebagai asam garam dalam dunia artis.

“Mula-mula saya tak kisah sangat, sebab yang upload tu dia bukan saya. Tapi bila dah keluar di surat khabar, saya rasa tak best. Tapi apa yang saya tahu, dia dah delete gambar tu. Bagi saya, ini semua lumrah. Banyak yang masih saya yang perlu belajar untuk berdepan dengan situasi macam ni. Tapi sebagai artis, saya faham yang orang akan sentiasa nak tahu tentang kita. Orang yang tak senang dengan kita tu akan sentiasa ada. Itu perkara biasa. Saya juga banyak bertanyakan pada rakan artis yang berpegalaman seperti Lisa Surihani dari segi kerja dan macam mana nak berdepan dengan situasi kalau terjadi hal-hal begini “,ujarnya yang menyatakan sehingga kini dirinya masih solo.

Sementara itu menyentuh tentang kerjaya, tidak sampai setahun bergelar anak seni, Hanis sudah boleh bergembira dengan pencapaiannya setakat hari ini. Banyak peluang diperoleh apabila dia diberi kepercayaan mengacara beberapa program di pelbagai saluran televisyen.

Antarannya seperti Raikan Cinta Musim 2 (saluran Astro), Muzik Ekstra (RTM), Mad Market (TV9) dan pada 15 Jun ini buat pertama kali dia diberi tanggujawab besar, sebagai salah seorang hos bagi mengacarakan acara karpet merah di Anugerah Blockbuster 2.

“Alhamdulillah, saya syukur dengan apa yang saya kecapi setakat ini. Perasaan tu tak tahu nak gambarkan macam mana, rasa bercampur baur. Buat masa ini fokus saya lebih kepada pengacaraan. Banyak lagi yang saya kena belajar. Untuk mantapkan lagi gaya pengacaraan saya, saya juga akan ikuti kelas dengan Pak Nil (Aznil Hj. Nawawi). Selain tu sebenarnya saya rindu juga nak berlakon. Dulu cuba-cuba jer, tapi sekarang ni saya jadi minat pula. Kalau ada tawaran dan sesuai dengan jadual saya, InsyaAllah saya akan pertimbangkan” katanya yang pernah muncul dalam filem Gangster Celop.

So we are Duo Gigs, Cherrie and Evangeline, and we blog at www.duogigs.blogspot.com. One of the most common question we get from people is ” OMG! Are you guys twins??” And the answer to that is, YES! This is a question we get asked like 1000000000 times, and lucky for you guys, we are always nice and friendly to people who react that way because we ask the exact same thing when we see other twins!

We’ve only started blogging since the end of December 2011, so we could still be considered relatively “fresh” to the blogging world but we love it more and more every day. We feel that it would be awesome to share our own tips and tricks, current trend info and personal style with the rest of the blogging world. We never thought of creating something separate because we are very close to each other, we love to work together and we simply believe in the power of two against one. Our lives have been connected throughout the years. We were brought up by our parents in such way that we love each other no matter what happens because at the end of the day, family always comes first. So here we are – two sides of the same coin, as Duo Gigs!

Love us or hate us, we have mad style. Whether we are sipping coffee at Starbucks or hitting events around town, we are always dressed to impress. The thing we love most about ourselves is that we dress only for ourselves! We are not trying to get our sexy on for men, we simply love fashion and we try to express that everyday on our blog. This is the probably the reason why people read our blog. We both have a strong passion for fashion, we like to experiment while staying true to ourselves. We are confident with our own identities and enjoy adding unique little twists to Malaysia’s fashion trends.

Blogger Amirah Filzah Jadi Pelakon Dunia Lola

As-Salam. Nampaknya sudah jadi satu trend pula apabila pencari bakat untuk drama, telefilem mahupun filem meronda dunia blog Malaysia mencari bakal-bakal pelakon. Nama seperti Hanis Zalikha, Lynda Roslan dan paling terbaru adalah blogger cantik menawan Nur Amirah Filzah.

Blogger Nur Amirah Filzah bukan nama asing, ramai juga blogger yang mengenali pemilik blog Mirarafilzah ini. Malah blogger ini pernah tampil di cover majalah Dara.com keluaran Ogos 2012. Dan ramai blogger terutama blogger yang bukan sejantina Amirah akui bahawa blogger ini merupakan antara blogger cantik cun dalam dunia blog Malaysia.

Seperti Hanis Zalikha mahupun Lynda Roslan, Amirah juga seorang model secara sambilan.

Blogger Amirah Filzah Jadi Pelakon Dunia Lola

Blogger ini akan berlakon dalam sebuah drama di Astro yang berjudul Dunia Lola. Ia merupakan terbitan Red Communications dengan kerjasama majalah Hijabista dan juga Sunsilk. Apa yang menarik ialah, drama Dunia Lola ini akan memaparkan kisah seorang gadis yang mempunyai blog ... hmm tentu menarik sekali.

HH pula mengenali dan mengetahui mengenai blog Nur Amirah Filzah sejak 2011 rasanya. Tetapi kalau ikut pada profil, Amirah sudah berada di dalam dunia blog sejak 2009 lagi. Masa tu, blogger ini baru nak menapak dalam dunia blog Malaysia. Dan di kala itu pula, blogger ini tidak bertudung, namun  alhamdulillah, sejak bulan Mei 2011, Amirah Filzah sudah bertudung.

Merupakan bekas pelajar cemerlang SMK Aminuddin Baki, Kuala Lumpur dan pelajar di UiTM Kampus Puncak Alam. Ada cita-cita untuk jadi peguam ... tapi meneruskan pengajian dalam bidang International Business.

Sebelum ini, ada blogger kata .... ramai artis dah ada blog ... hmm nampaknya kini trend jadi terbalik lak ... huhuhuhu....
